In checking my old email I discovered that Brad Bennett has not been calling me "Mad dog." It turns out he's been calling me "Madman Welty." Here's the email that first informed me of this.

8-2-2002

Your Republican opponent was on with Brad tonight.  Brad referred to you as "Madman Welty", which I thought was unreasonable, and ignorant, so could only come from Brad!  Your opponent was whining about how high taxes are... he thinks anyone on a fixed income should have their property taxes frozen. What an idiot!  Jeno is on a fixed income, my father was on a fixed income... no need to freeze their taxes, they manage just fine.
They talked about these poor people who live on lakes and have to suffer because "out of towners" came in and raised their property values. Their homes, he claims, are worth $30,000.00, but valued at 1 million!  He fails to see, if that's true, then they or their heirs will get a million when the place is sold. He promised to freeze property taxed, when elected.  I'd like to see him try.  But not enough to vote for him; the show wouldn't be worth it.
By the way, can I vote in the Republican primary?  I don't have to declare anything, do I?
