Thoughts on K-12 Education

As a parent, former teacher, and a Duluth School Board member since 1995 I've given public education lots of thought. Perhaps in summary I should note that shortly after Minnesota changed school finance it was ranked #5 in per student spending among the 50 states. Today it is ranked 17th. The rest of the states have caught up with and surpassed us.

I believe that public education is an investment in the future both of the individual student and the society as a whole. I would like to see Minnesota climb back up the rankings again especially since as a Duluth school board member I've had to preside over 6 years of budget cutting.

On my original web page at Snowbizz I have assembled an extensive set of sub pages on education and my experiences as a school board member. Check it out.

Also, I just found the college paper I wrote about the Minnesota School Finance Reform of 1971. It was called the "Minnesota Miracle."
